September 9 (SeeNews) - The executive board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Monday it will consider the nomination of Kristalina Georgieva, a Bulgarian national currently CEO of the World Bank, for the next managing director of the Fund.
Kristalina Georgieva has confirmed willingness to be considered as a candidate, the IMF said in a statement.
The period for submitting nominations for the post of the next managing director closed on Friday and the board will now proceed in line with the selection process, including holding meetings between the candidate and executive directors, the IMF said.
"The board’s goal is to complete the selection process as soon as possible, and at the latest by October 4, 2019.”
The IMF did not say whether it will consider other candidates for the position vacated by Christine Lagarde. She resigned in July, with effect from September 12, after she was nominated for European Central Bank president.
