December 28 (SeeNews) - Swedish home furnishings retailer IKEA said on Friday it has applied for a building permit for its first Croatian store and expects construction works to get underway in March or April.

IKEA files for building permit for Zagreb store, construction seen starting Mar/Apr

The IKEA store will be located on the eastern outskirts of the capital Zagreb and should open a year after the start of construction, IKEA Hrvatska told SeeNews in an email.

The application was submitted on Thursday and the permit should be issued within 45 days.

IKEA Hrvatska said it sees its investments in Croatia at around 100 million euro ($132 million).

The project initially featured an adjacent shopping mall but that component has been put on hold until 2015 when the market conditions will be re-examined to determine whether or not to proceed with the rest of the originally planned investment, IKEA Hrvatska told SeeNews back in March.
