Hong Kong’s Johnson Electric eyes Serbia's Sombor for production site – municipality

BELGRADE (Serbia), November 19 (SeeNews) – Hong Kong electric component maker Јohnson Electric is considering Serbia's city of Sombor as a location for an electric motor factory that will create 1,500 – 2,000 jobs, Sombor municipality said on Monday.

The company has expressed interest in a greenfield investment which would include the construction of a production facility on a five hectare site, the company’s officials said at a meeting with the local government.

Sombor is prepared to provide the land with the necessary infrastructure free of charge, the city mayor Sinisa Lazic said. The city also has skilled workforce that Johnson Electric will need and a strategic location - close to the borders of Hungary and Croatia.

Јohnson Electric generates a turnover of $ 2.2 billion (1.7 billion euro) and has factories in 23 countries worldwide, of which seven in Europe, representative of the company noted.
