The HPP must be completed within 44 months, with bidders being able to submit offers until May 30, 2024.
The project is based on the expansion of the Surduc-Siriu hydropower project, commissioned in 1981 and located at the intersection of the counties of Buzau, Vrancea, and Covasna. The expansion also encompasses the development of the Basca Mare and Basca Mica rivers.
In June 2023, 82% of the Surduc-Siriu HPP expansion had been completed, with commissioning set for 2026, Hidroelectrica said in its IPO prospectus at the time. The hydropower units to be installed at the new plant targeted a cumulative capacity of 55 MW and an estimated annual output of 152 GWh. The current tender seeks the delivery of a Francis water turbine with a minimum output of 20 MW.
The Romanian state holds an 80.06% stake in Hidroelectrica, while the remainder is in free float on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, according to bourse data.
Hidroelectrica saw its shares close at 131.8 lei after inching down by 0.15% on Friday on the Bucharest bourse.
