Sky Express will operate a BAE jet stream 41 with a capacity of 30 passengers on the routes. The airline has scheduled direct flights to and from Crete on Tuesdays and Thursdays and to and from Thessaloniki on Mondays and Fridays, Albania’s sole international airport said in a statement.
This brings the number of airlines operating in TIA at 14 and the direct destinations at 35, it added.
TIA handled 540,585 passengers in the first half of the year, up by 19%, but cargo volume decreased by 18% to 1,031 tonnes, due to reduction of charter flights.
The airport, located 25 kilometres northwest of Tirana, handled 1.12 million passengers in 2007, up 22%, and 3,483 tonnes of cargo, up 65%.
TIA has been managed by U.S.-German consortium Tirana International Airport under a 20-year build-own-operate-transfer concession deal since April 2005.
