Greece's Cosmote Albanian Arm 9-mo Operating Income Rises 21% to 76.3 Mln Euro - Table

November 26 (SeeNews) - Albanian Mobile Communications (AMC), the Albanian arm of Greek wireless operator Cosmote, posted a 21% annual rise in its nine-month operating income to 76.3 million euro ($99 million), Greek telecom group OTE, which fully owns Cosmote, said on Wednesday.

During the third quarter alone AMC had 30.2 million euro operating income, OTE said in a statement.

The number of AMC's subscribers reached 1.31 million at the end September, up from 1.13 million a year earlier.

Cosmote ( www.cosmote.gr ) bought an 85% stake in AMC ( www.amc.al ), Albania's first mobile operator, for $85.6 million from the government in 2000. The government in Tirana still holds the remainder.

AMC competes with Vodafone Albania (www.vodagone.al) in the country of 3.2 million people.

Cosmote's operating income reached 548.8 million euro though September, up 15.1%. Its consolidated revenue reached 2.42 billion euro through September, up by 7.4% on the year.

Cosmote, which also operates in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia, said its Romanian unit, Cosmote Romania, was a major contributor to the group's growth in the third quarter.
