November 2 (SeeNews) - Germany's wpd said it has put into operation its 36.8 megawatt Ponikve wind farm in Croatia.

Germany's wpd launches 36.8 MW wind farm in Croatia

The 45 million euro ($58 million) wind farm, located approximately 60 kilometres to the northwest of Dubrovnik on the Peljesac peninsula, went into operation as planned on October 20, wpd said in a statement on Thursday.

The 16 Enercon E-70 E-4 wind turbine generators that have been deployed on the site will generate 68 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, supplying 60,000 households.

Grid connection is made possible by a wpd-owned 20/110 kilovolt (kV) transformer station, connected to the transmission network of Croatia's grid operator HEP by a newly installed 110 kV overhead line with a length of 800 meters.

wpd windmanager Croatia will take over responsibility for the operation of the wind farm and the transformer station.

This is wpd's third wind farm project in Croatia following the launch in 2006 and 2009, respectively, of the Trtar-Krtolin and Orlice wind farms, both located in the coastal Sibenik area.

Bremen-based wpd is a developer and operator of wind farms with activities in 20 countries worldwide.
