The project involves the construction of regional sanitary landfills with a waste separation line, treatment of process waters, composting of green waste, landfill gas utilisation systems, and procurement of priority waste collection equipment, the government said in a press release on Thursday.

The project also covers the surrounding municipalities in the Rasin and Pcinj districts, which will dispose of their municipal waste at the regional sanitary landfills in Krusevac and Vranje, said infrastructure minister Goran Vesic.

The government will call a tender for the contractor in October, who will be chosen by January 2025, with the project expected be finished by the end of 2026.

The Serbian government will pay back 70% of the loan, with the local self-governments paying the remainder.
