Romania will have sufficient amounts of natural gas to meet demand during the winter, prime minister Nicolae Ciuca said in a post on social media, repeating a statement he made in August.
Romania's natural gas reserves grew 21% on the year compared to October 2021, to 477 million cu m, the PM also said.
Half of the 55 million cu m of natural gas needed on average for domestic consumption during one winter day are currently produced internally, while the rest is ensured from available deposits, according to the prime minister.
On June 23, the European Parliament approved a plan to speed up the storage of natural gas in the EU countries before winter in order to protect households and businesses in the event that Russia decides to suspend supplies in retaliation for economic sanctions over the war in Ukraine. EU countries should strive to fill their deposits at 85% by November 1 and at 90% from 2023 onwards.
