December 23 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy regulator, ANRE, said there will be no increases in gas and electricity prices for household consumers during next year's first quarter.

The tariffs paid for gas distribution will also remain unchanged, ANRE said in a statement late on Monday.

"ANRE's decision takes into account the favourable evolution of oil and oil products quotations, which will determine a fall in natural gas import prices beginning with the first quarter of 2009," the statement said.

ANRE also said electricity prices for households will remain unchanged as of January 1, while for industrial consumers there will be an average increase of 1.5%.

Gas and electricity prices in Romania rose by an average 12.5% and 5.3%, respectively, as of July 1. Gas distributors have requested earlier this year an increase in gas prices as of October 1, but ANRE rejected their request.
