Gains on Bucharest Bourse Pile Up, Banca Transilvania, Rompetrol Rafinare Boost Turnover

September 8 (SeeNews) - The indices of the Bucharest Stock Exchange, BVB, gained further ground on Tuesday, with blue chips Banca Transilvania and Rompetrol Rafinare propelling turnover to near-record highs for the year, brokers said.

The blue-chip BET index of the BVB edged up 0.13% to 4,355.13 points, while the BET-FI, which tracks the country's five regional investment funds, the SIFs, jumped 4.46% to 23,442.56 points.

The composite BET-C index advanced 0.33% to 2,558.12 and the ROTX index of Romania's 15 most liquid stocks, a joint index of the BVB and the Vienna Stock Exchange, ticked 0.04% higher to 9,231.81.

BVB's turnover more than tripled to 98.7 million lei ($33.6 million/23.3 million euro) from 30.8 million lei on Monday. The number of traded shares surged to 412.8 million from 53.3 million on Monday.

Oil refinery Rompetrol Rafinare rose 0.58% to 0.0516 lei in the day's largest turnover of 16.8 million lei. SIF 5 Oltenia jumped 3.42% to 1.21 lei on deals worth 8.7 million lei, Tuesday’s second largest turnover. SIF 2 Moldova ended up 3.85% at 1.08 lei in a 6.1 million lei turnover, the session’s third largest.

Blue-chip lender BRD appreciated by 0.78% to 12.9 lei in a turnover of 4.6 million lei, while Banca Transilvania was down 0.62% to 1.6 lei in 1.3 million lei turnover.

In early trading on Tuesday, nearly 26.5 million shares of Banca Transilvania, equal to a stake of 2.49%, changed hands for a combined 42.8 million lei in four transactions at an average price of 1.62 lei each.

SIF 3 Transilvania surged 8.46% to 0.705 lei in turnover of 4.5 million lei. SIF 4 Muntenia gained 2.9% to 0.71 lei in deals worth 2.9 million lei, and SIF 1 Banat Crisana rose 2.83% to 1.09 lei in turnover of 2.3 million lei.

Blue-chip oil and gas group Petrom ended unchanged at 0.267 lei in deals worth 1.15 million lei, while blue-chip drug maker Biofarm advanced 1.28% to 0.237 lei in a 1.15 million lei turnover.

The BET-XT index, which tracks the 25 most liquid companies on the bourse, including the SIFs, climbed 1.45% to 432.41 points. The BET-NG, which includes companies from the energy sector and utilities, added 0.13% to 549.02 points.

Rasdaq-C, the composite index of the over-the-counter market RASDAQ, rose 0.31% to 2,118.25. Turnover on the RASDAQ increased to 2.1 million lei from 1.1 million lei on Monday.
