BUCHAREST (Romania), September 29 (SeeNews) – French industrial engineering group Alstom will build a 150 million euro ($215 million) plant near the Romanian capital by mid-2010, Bucharest-based daily Ziarul Financiar reported on Monday.

"From 2010 local power producers will have access to the newest technology in Europe [...] The total investment is more than 150 million euro and the project will be implemented by Alstom Power Romania," Ziarul Financiar quoted unnamed company officials as saying.

They did not elaborate on the exact location of the plant or the type of equipment it will produce, the daily reported.

Alstom's investment is the first project of such a high value in the Romanian engineering sector, even though there are other big players present in the country, as well, including Siemens and General Electric, the daily said.

Alstom has three subsidiaries in Romania, Alstom Power Romania, Alstom Transport and Alstom General Turbo, which generated a combined turnover of 78 million euro last year.

Alstom is a world leader in transport and energy infrastructure. It is present in 70 countries worldwide, employs some 76,000 and has annual sales of 16.9 billion euro.
