TIRANA (Albania), September 24 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign nationals who visited Albania in the eight months through August rose 11% year-on-year to 4.87 million, the country's statistical office said on Tuesday.
Foreign nationals who visited Albania for the purpose of recreation in the January-August period totalled 4.7 million, up by 10.7%, INSTAT said in a statement.
The largest number of foreign visitors came from Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece and Italy. Visitors from Switzerland posted the sharpest annual increase, by 17%, in the eight-month period.
In August alone, Albania was visited by 1.56 million foreign nationals, up 7.4% year-on-year. Of the total, 1.52 million came for recreational purposes, up by 7.5% compared to August 2018.
In 2018, the total number of foreign visitors to Albania increased by 16%, reaching 5.9 million.
