Foreign tourist arrivals to Bulgaria rise 6.1% y/y in Oct

November 27 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria went up by 6.1% year-on-year in October, reaching 898,900, of which 36% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Monday.

Nationals from fellow EU member states accounted for 47.9% of all visits by foreign nationals in the review month, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a regular report. Romania was Bulgaria's biggest EU feeder market, from where 37.5% of foreign visitors originated, followed by Greece with 22.5%.

Visits to Bulgaria from other European countries totalled 380,100 last month, of which Turkey accounted for 46.2%.

Turkish nationals represented the largest group of foreign visitors to Bulgaria overall in October, or 175,000, followed by visitors from Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Germany and Serbia.

In October, holiday trips and business visits made up 35.1% and 15.3% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively, with increases recorded in all categories of visits monitored.
