December 5 (SeeNews) - The electric version of Fiat’s new Panda model will be manufactured at the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Serbia factory in Kragujevac, Serbia’s president Aleksandar Vucic said.

The production of electric Panda would increase trade between Italy and Serbia above the current annual volume of 4.6 billion euro ($5 billion), Vucic said, as seen in a video posted on the YouTube channel of public broadcaster RTS on Monday following a visit by Italian prime minister Georgia Meloni to Belgrade.

Vucic did not mention the exact date when production would start. Local media reported last week that production is expected to start from the middle of next year.

The Fiat 500L model was manufactured in Kragujevac until last year. In August, FCA Serbia said it will likely start production of a new car model at its factory in Kragujevac in the third quarter of 2024.

In April 2022, multinational automotive manufacturing corporation Stellantis and Serbia signed a deal to jointly invest 190 million euro to launch the production of electric vehicles in Kragujevac.

Stellantis was formed in 2021 following the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and France's PSA Group.

FCA owns 67% of the share capital of FCA Serbia. The Serbian government holds the remainder.
