A total of 95 subscriber stations in Plovdiv were equipped last month with systems for remote reading of power meters, EVN Bulgaria said in a statement on Monday.
The deployments are part of an ongoing project with a total value of 6.3 million levs ($4.2 million/3.2 million euro).
The company plans to equip 450 subscriber stations with remote power metering systems by the end of 2012 and to have smart electricity meters installed in all residential buildings in Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second biggest city, by the end of 2013.
EVN Bulgaria (www.evn.bg) is the power distributor for Plovdiv city and the region of southeastern Bulgaria, supplying electricity to some 1.6 million customers.
