September 7 (SeeNews) - The European Commission said on Friday it will recover 3.84 million euro ($4.9 million) from Romania in unduly spent EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) funds.

EU to recover 3.84 mln euro for agriculture from Romania

Romania is among 14 member states to return funds worth a total 215 million euro to the Commission under the so-called clearance of accounts procedure.

"This money returns to the EU budget because of non-compliance with EU rules or inadequate control procedures on agricultural expenditure," the Commission said in a statement.

In the case of Romania, the funds will be recovered due to failure to meet payment deadlines.

CAP funds will also be recovered from Germany, Ireland, Greece, France, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Austria, Portugal, Sweden and the United Kingdom, the Commission said.
