The proposed extension means continued full liberalisation of exports for seven agricultural products from Moldova, subject to tariff-rate quotas, including tomatoes, garlic, table grapes, apples, cherries, plums, and grape juice, the EC said in a press release on Wednesday.
The Commission said that the duty suspension, in place since July 2022, has been highly important in redirecting Moldova's exports through the EU, compensating for disruptions caused by Russia's military aggression against Ukraine. Moldova's exports typically rely on transit through Ukrainian territory and Ukrainian infrastructure.
Moldova's exports to the EU rose from 1.8 billion euro in 2021 to 2.6 billion euro ($2.81 billion) in 2022.
The Commission also said it would extend the suspension of import duties on Ukrainian exports for another year until June 2025.
The proposals will now be considered by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
