PODGORICA (Montenegro), November 24 (SeeNews) – The European Investment Bank (EIB) said on Tuesday it is lending 27 million euro ($40 million) to support the solid waste management sector in Montenegro.
“The loan […] will co-finance the first phase of the creation of a national sustainable solid waste management system in line with European Union (EU) standards and directives,” the EIB said in a statement.
The project, with an estimated investment cost of 54 million euro, concerns the implementation of the first disposal cells of five inter-municipality sanitary landfills, transfer stations, recycling facilities and the rehabilitation of some 30 dumpsites, the statement added.
The project aims to reduce water and soil pollution, the EIB said.
The bank has lent Montenegro some 200 million euro since the start of its activities in the country in 2002.
