February 12 (SeeNews) - The European Commission (EC) said it has given the green light to a Romanian aid scheme of almost 56 million euro ($60.4 million) aimed at supporting breeders of pigs and poultry in the context of Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
The aid comes as part of efforts to provide support to critical sectors amidst the crisis, as outlined in the Temporary Crisis and Transition Framework for state aid, the European Union's executive said in a press release on Friday.
The approved scheme will offer direct grants of up to 280,000 euro per beneficiary, to pig and poultry farmers facing financial distress due to market challenges resulting from the conflict. All grants must be disbursed by June 30, 2024.
