December 15 (SeeNews) - Kosovo’s finance ministry said on Friday it has signed an agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for a 20 million euro ($22 million) loan to finance the extension of the existing wastewater collection system and the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant in the southern Kosovo city of Ferizaj.
The project will be implemented by the state-owned Regional Water Company Bifurkacioni (RWCB), the finance ministry said in a press release.
Through the construction of a new sewage treatment plant in the Ferizaj, the government aims to prevent the discharge of sewage into rivers. As many as 90,000 inhabitants in Ferizaj and its surrounding areas are set to be positively impacted by the project.
The agreement aligns with Kosovo’s 2023-2027 national water strategy, which emphasizes expanded water resources, enhanced service coverage, and pollution reduction through water treatment.
