November 22 (SeeNews) - Pharmaceutical prices in Bulgaria were 14.5% lower than the global average, London-based digital healthcare provider Medbelle said.
Bulgaria ranked 31st among 50 countries worldwide, Medbelle said in its 2019 International Medicine Price Index, published on Thursday.
Bulgaria's most expensive drug as compared to the global average was Azithromycin, marketed under the name Zithromax - a drug against bacterial infections, which cost 26.45% more than the average.
The country's least expensive medication is anxiety and panic disorder drug Alprazolam, marketed under the name Xanax, which cost 78.55% less than the global median.
The study included thirteen medications.
Medbelle's study reveals the differences in cost of some of the most widely recognised and indispensable medications in order to make a comparison on a euro-for-euro basis of how much medicines cost in different countries, regardless of whether covered by a healthcare system, or paid directly from the individual.
