November 6 (SeeNews) - Croatia's Zigljen ferry port, on the Adriatic island of Pag, is going to launch a 73.4 million kuna ($10.9 million/9.9 million euro) revamp and expansion project supported by European Union cohesion funds, the transport ministry said.
The contract for the financing of the project was signed on Tuesday, with the EU providing 62.4 million kuna towards the total cost and the state budget contributing the remainder, the transport ministry said in a statement after the signing ceremony.
The project will enable the Zigljen ferry port to handle larger vessels and provide docking services in bad weather.
Apart from this, its overall capacity and the quality of its services will be upgraded, reducing traffic jams at the port.
The project is part of a wider initiative of the government in Zagreb and the EU, which has earmarked more than 709 million kuna for improving Croatia's port infrastructure, with 85% of the amount provided by EU cohesion funds, the ministry said.
