Croatia’s gross external debt rises to 64 bln euro at end-2023

Gross external debt was equivalent to 84.4% of Croatia’s gross domestic product at the end of December, the central bank said in a press release last Friday.

General government made a relatively modest contribution to the growth of gross external debt in the last quarter of 2023 compared to the third quarter, of 400 million euro, while all other sectors recorded a fall in foreign debt, the central bank said.

The country’s gross external debt totalled 49.8 billion euro at the end of 2022.
