May 24 (SeeNews) - Croatia's central government budget deficit widened to 903.779 million euro ($978.4 million) in the first quarter of this year, from a deficit of 348.048 million euro in the comparable year-ago period, official figures showed.

Budget revenues increased 12.9% on the year to 6.209 billion euro in the three months through March, while expenditures rose 21.7% to 7.113 billion euro, according to figures published on the website of the finance ministry.

In March alone, Croatia recorded a central government budget deficit of 627 million euro, compared with a deficit of 42 million euro in the same month of 2023.

The general government deficit is targeted at 1.9% of GDP in 2024. However, the European Commission has said earlier this month that Croatia’s general government deficit is expected to increase to 2.6% of the projected gross domestic product in 2024 from 0.7% of GDP in 2023.
