April 2 (SeeNews) - Croatian IT company Span Group [ZSE:SPAN] said on Tuesday it has signed a deal to acquire 30% of the capital of its local affiliate software company BonsAI for 750,000 euro ($806,000), increasing its ownership stake to 100%, as it expects the AI segment to generate significant profit in the coming years

Together with cloud and cybersecurity, AI is becoming one of Span’s key strategic directions in the coming period, Span said in a filing to the Zagreb bourse.

In the filing, Span also announced an intention to merge BonsAI and another wholly-owned affiliate, Ekobit, which Span acquired in 2022.

“The purpose of the integration of Bonsai and Ekobit into Span is the unification of Span’s offer of software and AI solutions development,” Span said.

The targeted date for the integration process to take effect is by the end of the second quarter of 2024, after which the affiliated companies Bonsai and Ekobit will operate within the unique Span brand.

According to the website of BonsAI, it was founded in 2017 as part of the Span group.

Span’s shares last traded on March 28 on the Zagreb bourse, closing 0.21% higher at 48 euro.
