The increase will affirm the rising popularity of Croatia as a destination that offers more than just sun and sea, Kristjan Stanicic said in a statement published by the tourism ministry on Friday.

The 2018 full-year number of visiting tourists and overnight stays have already been exceeded by October 25 this year, the tourism ministry said in the same statement.

The number of tourist arrivals to Croatia rose by 5% on the year to 19.7 million by late October, while the volume of overnight stays increased by 2% to 106.2 million in the period of almost ten full months, the ministry said, citing data by the country's eVisitor system.

Most tourists came from Germany, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Poland, Italy, the Czech Republic and Great Britain. The most popular destinations in terms of overnight stays were Dubrovnik, Rovinj, Porec, Split, Medulin, Umag, Vir and Mali Losinj.
