Cargo traffic of the Croatian Adriatic ports stood at 23.2 million tonnes last year and was 1.7% lower compared to 2022, the Croatian Bureau of Statistics said in a quarterly report.

Ship arrivals rose 1.4% last year and numbered 347,632.

Alone in the fourth quarter of 2023, a total of 4.5 million passengers embarked or disembarked in the Croatian seaports, an annual increase of 4.2%.

The total traffic of goods in the fourth quarter of 2023 at the Croatian Adriatic seaports amounted to 5.3 million tonnes and it was 7.2% lower compared to the same period of 2022. This decrease was driven mostly by a 13.6% drop in the traffic of liquid goods, which accounted for 45% of the total traffic of goods, and by a 10.5% fall of traffic of dry bulk goods, which had a 28% share in the total cargo traffic. Containerised goods, which had a 20% share in the total traffic of goods in tonnes, recorded an annual increase of 25.1%.

Out of the five ports that account for 93% of the total traffic of goods in seaports, the ports of Omisalj and Ploce reported a decrease of 22% and 25.5%, respectively, compared to the fourth quarter of 2022.
