March 14 (SeeNews) - The Croatian parliament decided to dissolve on Thursday in preparation for the forthcoming general election, it said in a short notice.
Parliament did not provide further details in the notice published on its website.
Croatia will hold general elections before the vote for members of the European Parliament in early June. Croatian president Zoran Milanovic is yet to set the date for the parliamentary vote, which has to be held 30 to 60 days after the dissolution of the national legislature.
The ruling centre-right party HDZ led by prime minister Andrej Plenkovic and its coalition partners control 77 of the 151 seats in Croatia's unicameral parliament elected on July 5, 2020.
According to a public opinion survey published by daily Vecernji List on February 23, HDZ remains the strongest political party, supported by 28.7% of the respondents, followed by the centre-left social democratic party SDP with 13.9% and left-green party Mozemo with 7.6%.
