Croatian airports' passenger numbers grow 8.8% y/y in Jan-July

September 12 (SeeNews) - Passenger numbers at Croatia's airports rose 8.8% year-on-the year to 6.257 million in the first seven months of 2019, the country's statistical office said on Thursday.

The total number of landings and take-offs increased by 5.8% year-on-year to 73,419 in January-July, while cargo volumes fell 3.8% to 6,620 tonnes, the statistical office said in a statement.

In July alone, the airports in the Adriatic country handled 1.975 million passengers, up 5.1% on the year, while the overall number of airplane landings and take-offs rose 0.9% to 19,739. The cargo traffic at the airports declined by annual 5.9% to 1,089 tonnes in July.

In July, the airport in Split recorded the largest number of passengers in Croatia - 719,796 (up 4% on the year), followed by Dubrovnik airport with 510,921 (up 8.6%) and Zagreb airport with 363,936 (down 3.8%).

Residents of Germany led the list of international passengers at Croatian airports in July as they totalled 342,094 (up 8.7% on the year), followed by the United Kingdom (325,009, up 5.4%), France (153,063, up 7.2%), Norway (125,102, a 2.4% decrease) and Sweden (103,598, a fall of 5.5%).
