June 7 (SeeNews) - Croatia's real economy expanded by an annual 3.9% in the first quarter of 2024, marking the second-largest increase in the EU, preceded only by Malta with 4.6%, the bloc's statistical office said on Friday.
Compared to the previous quarter, Croatia recorded the EU's third-highest rise in gross domestic product (GDP) in the January-March period and highest among EU member states in Southeast Europe (SEE), at 1%, Eurostat said in a quarterly report, citing seasonally adjusted data.
Elsewhere in SEE, Bulgaria, Romania and Slovenia each registered annual GDP growth of 1.8% in the first quarter of this year. At the same time, Slovenia's GDP remained unchanged in quarterly terms in the period under review, while Bulgaria and Romania's real economies expanded by 0.4% each.
In the EU overall, GDP rose by 0.5% in annual terms and by 0.3% compared to the previous quarter.
