The new section will help alleviate city traffic and is part of a transport corridor which will in the future improve connections between Vinkovci, Vukovar (on the border with Serbia and Osijek, Croatia's fourth largest city, prime minister Andrej Plenkovic, who was present at the opening ceremony, said in a government statement in the weekend.

The construction of the 7-km beltway section began in May 2017.

Construction works were carried out by local company Osijek-Koteks.
