October 14 (SeeNews) - The number of building permits issued in Croatia fell by 13.1% on the year to 845 in August, the State Statistics Bureau said.

The number of building permits issued in the first eight months of 2009 increased by 9.3% on the year, the statistics office said on its website.

In August alone, the number of permits issued for buildings fell to 782 with a total volume of 1.5 million cubic metres, from 858 permits with a volume of 1.27 billion cubic metres a year ago.

The value of construction works decreased to 2.35 billion kuna ($0.48 billion/0.32 billion euro) in August from 5.37 billion kuna a year earlier.

Permits issued for buildings in August accounted for 92.5% of the total, while the remaining 7.5% were issued for civil engineering works.
