In the first eight months of the year overnight stays went up by 3.0% to 48.721 million, the office said on Thursday.

Tourism is a key industry for Croatia. Last year the Adriatic country reported 11.2 million tourists, a rise of 7.0% on the year, and 56 million overnights, up by 6.0%.
Croatia's Tourism Ministry expects 3.0% to 5.0% growth of tourism revenue and up to three percent rise in the number of tourists in 2008. Last year the country's tourism revenue rose by 7.1% to 6.7 billion euro ($9.14 billion).
Tourism generated 18% of Croatia's gross domestic product in 2007.
