The fuel was supplied by local oil and gas company INA [ZSE:INA], Croatia Airlines said in a press release.
INA has confirmed its readiness for an upcoming legal obligation under which as of the beginning of 2025, fuel uplift at European Union airports must contain at least 2% SAF in order to decarbonise air traffic, it added.
Under the EU regulation, all suppliers of aviation fuel will be obliged to secure SAF deliveries, and air carriers will have to use it within the bloc. The rule applies to airports with an annual capacity of more than 800,000 passengers.
The usage of SAF reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the average fuel life cycle by 60-80%, Croatia Airlines added.
Shares of INA traded flat at 494 euro ($526) intraday on Friday on the Zagreb bourse.
Shares of Croatia Airlines last traded on April 9, ending flat at 5.00 euro.
