Croatia 9-mo tourism sector revenues rise 3.25%

November 29 (SeeNews) - The combined revenues generated by Croatian hospitality and catering companies and travel agents rose 3.25% to 18.1 billion kuna ($3.1 billion/2.4 billion euro) in the first nine months of 2012, the country's tourism ministry said on Thursday.

Hotels and other accommodation providers posted revenue of 8.7 billion kuna over the review period, 6.8% more than a year earlier, the ministry said in a statement.

Travel agents and tour operators posted a revenue growth of 15.5% through September.

According to the country's Employment Service, from September to October, the number of workers in the tourism sector was 15,800, up 8.5% from a year earlier.

According to data of the World Travel&Tourism Council, Croatia's tourism and travel industry contributed 32.7 billion kuna directly to the country's economy in 2011, equivalent to 11% of its gross domestic product.
