Croatia 8-mo tourist numbers rise 2.3%, overnights up 3.2% - table

October 11 (SeeNews) - The number of tourists staying in Croatia rose 2.3% to 9.5 million in the first eight months of 2012, the Croatian Statistics Bureau said on Thursday.

Overnights were up by 3.2% to some 52.8 million in the January-August period, the office said.

In the eight-month period, the largest number of foreign tourists in Croatia came from Germany, followed by visitors from Slovenia, Austria and Italy.

Tourism is a key industry for Croatia, contributing around a fifth of the country's gross domestic product. The Adriatic country reported an 8.0% increase in tourist numbers to 11.46 million in 2011 while overnights were up by 7.0% to 60.35 million.
