The electricity produced by the coal-fired power plant met the average consumption needs of almost 1.3 million Bulgarian households during the January-October period, the plant operator said in a statement.
Over the summer, the power plant completed a planned overhaul of all four of its units and also secured the necessary lignite supplies from the nearby Maritsa East coal mine. The plant is thus ready to operate at full capacity over the 2022/20223 heating season, according to the statement.
The 908-MW ContourGlobal Maritsa East 3 is 73%-owned by UK-based energy giant ContourGlobal, with Bulgarian state-owned National Electricity Company holding the remaining 27% stake. In May, the UK parent company agreed to be taken private by US private equity firm KKR.
