November 27 (SeeNews) - The Bucharest Airports National Company, CNAB, said on Monday it has finished repair works on Runway 1 of Henri Coanda airport as well as on some platforms and aircraft driveways.

The repair works, carried out on a total area of 67,228 sq m, were completed over the weekend, CNAB said in a press release.

"The completion of the works allows the operation of Runway 1 at full capacity, including in low visibility (fog, heavy snow) or bad weather," CNAB general manager Bogdan Mindrescu said.

The works began in September and consisted of removing the existing asphalt mixes on a thickness of 10 cm and putting on two new layers of asphalt mixes.

CNAB operates Bucharest's main airport Henri Coanda and a smaller airport, Aurel Vlaicu.

In October, CNAB said that its gross profit rose 34% year-on-year to 320 million lei ($81.6 million/ 68.7 million euro) in the first nine months of 2017 due to significantly higher revenues and a more efficient management of financial resources.

In September, CNAB said it intends to start construction of a new terminal worth 818.5 million euro ($971 million) which will double the combined capacity of the company's two airports. The works are expected to begin in 2022 and will take three years to complete. The new terminal at the Henri Coanda airport will have 25 gates and 56 parking spaces.
