Bulgaria's YTD power output falls 17%, consumption slips 2.4%

April 1 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's electricity production fell by 17.08% on the year to some 10,137 GWh between January 1 and March 31, the country's Electricity System Operator (ESO) said on Monday.

In parallel, domestic power consumption declined by 2.43% year-on-year to 10,412 GWh, ESO said in its latest weekly data release.

The country swung to a power trade deficit of 274.9 GWh in the review period from a surplus of 1,554 GWh a year earlier.

The volume of renewable energy in the transmission network grew by an annual 38.01% to some 630 GWh, while the volume of renewable energy in the distribution system increased by 17.16% to some 640.1 GWh.

The output of hydropower plants, however, lost 1.75% on the year to roughly 681.6 GWh in the period under review.
