Bulgaria's YTD power output drops 17%, consumption down 3.7%

April 9 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's electricity production slid by an annual 16.74% to 10,859 GWh between January 1 and April 7, the country's Electricity System Operator (ESO) said.

Domestic power consumption fell by 3.69% on the year to 11,002 GWh, ESO said in a weekly data release on Monday.

The country turned to a power trade deficit of 143.4 GWh in the review period from a surplus of 1,619 GWh a year earlier.

The volume of renewable energy in the transmission network surged by 40.61% to 695.2 GWh, whereas the volume of renewable energy in the distribution system leapt by 20.64% to some 712.9 GWh.

In parallel, the output of hydropower plants rose by 1.38% year-on-year to a little over 766 GWh in the period under review.
