SOFIA (Bulgaria), October 16 (SeeNews) -  Bulgaria's 42 million levs ($25.2 million/21.5 million euro) tender for the construction of the southern  bypass road of the city of Plovdiv attracted bids from 12 candidates, the Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) said on Friday.

Four consortia submitted bids in the public procurement procedure, the government agency said in a statement.

Among the members of these tie-ups are Bulgaria-based Geostroy, PST Group and a local unit of Austria's Strabag.

Eight Bulgarian companies, among which Trace Group Hold, GP Group, Groma Hold and GBS-Infrastrukturno Stroitelstvo, are running on their own in the tender.

The construction of the 4.8 kilometre long road will be financed from the state budget, RIA said.

Construction works are expected to be completed within 18 months from the start.

The new bypass road is expected to significantly improve transit traffic from the municipalities of Kuklen and Asenovgrad, both in Plovdiv region, to Trakia and Maritsa motorways and from there to Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint at the border with Turkey, RIA said last month when it launched the tender.
