Bulgaria's Sofia Airport Passenger Traffic To Rise to 3.1 Mln in '08, Up 19% Y/Y in Jan-Sept

October 13 (SeeNews) - Passenger traffic at the international airport in Bulgaria's capital Sofia rose by 19% year-on-year to 2.49 million in the first nine months of 2008 and is seen rising to 3.1 million by the end of the year, the airport has said.

The number of passengers on scheduled international flights handled by the Sofia airport increased by 24% to 2.492 million in 2007, according to the Bulgarian Airlines Association.

Twenty percent of the passengers in the nine months through September flied on low-cost air carriers, the airport said in a statement on its website.

The Sofia airport handled 13,734 tonnes of cargo in the nine months through September, 5.1% more than a year earlier.

The number of aircraft movements rose 14.3% year-on-year to 36,908 through September.
