Bulgaria's Q1 new passenger car registrations jump 47% y/y - ACEA

April 18 (SeeNews) - New passenger car registrations in Bulgaria surged by 46.8% year-on-year to 11,528 units in the first quarter of 2024, the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) said on Thursday.

In March alone, the number of newly registered passenger cars in Bulgaria jumped by 29.2% on the year to 3,944, ACEA said in a press release.

In January-March, the highest annual rise was reported in plug-in hybrid vehicle registrations, at 171.4% to 133 units, followed by hybrid electric cars with a 58.9% leap to 224 units.

Battery electric vehicles (EVs) posted the only yearly decline in registrations, at 13.3% to 411 units.

Petrol was the most popular fuel type for newly registered cars in Bulgaria in the first three months of this year, with 8,533 units, followed by diesel cars, with 1,948 units.

In the EU, new passenger car registrations went up 4.4% in annual terms to 2.77 million units in the first quarter of the year and fell by 5.2% to 1.03 million units in March alone.
