Bulgaria's Plovdiv city awards deal to build traffic management center

SOFIA (Bulgaria), December 18 (SeeNews) – The Bulgarian municipality of Plovdiv said it has signed with a Bulgarian-German consortium an agreement to design and build a traffic management centre as part of a 44.3 million lev ($27.9 million/22.6 million euro) transport system upgrade.

The value of the contract signed with the Plovdiv Intelligent Transport Systems tie-up is 6.2 million levs, the municipal authorities said in a press release.

In addition to building the centre for traffic monitoring and management, the contractor will renovate the infrastructure of important intersections and will replace 42 traffic lights.

The urban modernisation project is financed with EU funds under the operational programme Regional Development 2007-2013.

Plovdiv is Bulgaria's second largest city.
