November 21 (SeeNews) - The public transport company of the Bulgarian city of Pleven will receive 15 million levs ($8.5 million/7.7 million euro) of EU financing under to finance the purchase of 14 electric buses and the same number of charging stations, the environment ministry said.
The total investment in the project, which aims to improve air quality in the city in northern Bulgaria, is 18 million levs, the ministry said in a statement earlier this week.
The EU financing will be provided under operational programme Environment 2014-2020.
The exploitation of the new public transport vehicles will be optimised through the integration of the newly-acquired electric buses into the existing intelligent transport systems of Pleven's public transport company.
The successful implementation of the project will decrease the levels of fine particulate matter in the air to 0.33 tonnes per year from 0.43 tonnes per year and will improve the air quality for over 95,000 inhabitants.
All works are planned to be completed within 40 months.
