Bulgaria's labour productivity up 1.2% y/y in Q1 - prelim data

June 7 (SeeNews) - The gross domestic product (GDP) per person employed in Bulgaria increased by 1.2% on the year to some 12,636 levs ($7,020/6,461 euro) in the first quarter of 2024, the statistical office said on Friday.

Gross value added (GVA) per person employed also grew in real terms in January-March, by 4.5% year-on-year, while GVA per hour worked climbed 4.9%, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a statement, citing preliminary data.

GVA per person employed in the industrial sector came in at 13,801.5 levs in the review period. In the service sector, an average of 11,158.9 levs GVA was generated by each person employed. Labour productivity was the lowest in the agricultural sector, at 1,431.7 levs in GVA per employee.

Some 3.43 million people were employed in Bulgaria's economy in the first quarter, with the total number of hours worked reaching 1.43 billion.
