The upgrade of the four-storey car park is scheduled to begin in 2024 and will take about a year to complete, SOF Connect said in a press release.
The works will also involve the installation of an access control system equipped with a barrier and automatic license plate recognition. In addition, GBS-Infrastructure Construction will carry out road widening and will build a new U-turn, redirecting traffic to adjacent facilities located outside the airport.
GBS-Infrastructure Construction is a subsidiary of Bulgarian civil engineering contractor Glavbolgarstroy Holding.
While this project is underway, GBS-Infrastructure Construction is expected to complete the construction of the airport's open-air parking lot, with a capacity of over 1,000 parking spaces.
The two projects will bring to nearly 1,900 the total number of parking spaces at Sofia Airport, the concession holder said.
