Bulgaria's government debt amounted to 42.38 billion levs at the end of 2023, equivalent to 23.1% of GDP.

This was the second-lowest government debt to GDP ratio in the EU, preceded only by Estonia with 19.6%, data published separately by Eurostat on Monday showed.

The government debt to GDP ratio in the EU stood at 81.7% at the end of last year, while the same ratio was 88.6% for the countries in the eurozone, according to Eurostat.
