Bulgaria's foreign debt grows 0.4% y/y in March

May 30 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's overall gross external debt rose by 0.4% on the year to some 45.3 billion euro ($49.2 billion) at the end of March, recording the same annual increase as in February, the central bank said on Thursday.

Gross external debt at the end of the first quarter of 2024 represented 44.7% of the gross domestic product (GDP) forecast for the current year, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a monthly report.

In March 2023, Bulgaria's foreign debt was equivalent to 48% of last year's GDP.

At some 10.73 billion euro in the review month, the general government gross foreign debt went up by 11.1% compared to the end of March 2023 and was equal to 10.6% of the projected 2024 GDP.
